In July, the French Riviera moves to its sunniest rhythm. The Mediterranean is warm, days seem to
stretch endlessly, villages come alive at nightfall and cultural events give the Riviera its unmistakable energy.
It is also the time of year when knowing the right places and the right pace makes all the difference.
Rather than following the most crowded routes, summer is best enjoyed through a balance of time at sea, early-morning cultural visits, a glass of wine in the hills above Nice and dinner in a hilltop village.
Between Nice, Cannes, Antibes and the countryside beyond the coast, this Maison Côte Collections itinerary offers an elegant, relaxed and curious way to discover the French Riviera in July.
Set sail for the Lérins Islands
At the height of summer, the sea remains one of the best ways to find a little space. From Cannes, a day on the water offers the chance to reach the Lérins archipelago and enjoy the turquoise waters between Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat.
The ideal approach is to slow down: choose a beautiful anchorage, go for a swim, take a few laps in the water or simply enjoy lunch on board with Mediterranean produce and a well-chilled bottle of wine.
On Saint-Honorat, a visit to the Abbey of Lérins provides a quieter interlude. Among pine trees, ancient stone walls and vineyards cultivated by the monastic community, the island reveals a more peaceful and preserved side of the French Riviera.
Returning in the late afternoon is a wonderful way to enjoy the golden light over the Bay of Cannes as the coastline gradually becomes calmer again.
Discover the Riviera’s leading museums
July is ideal for visiting the museums of the French Riviera early in the day, before the heat really sets in.
In Saint-Paul-de-Vence, the Fondation Maeght is an essential stop. Works by Giacometti, Miró, Braque and Chagall interact with gardens, pools and umbrella pines in a setting that is as memorable as the collection itself.
In Antibes, the Picasso Museum, housed in the Château Grimaldi, offers another perspective on the
Riviera: more maritime, more mineral, with the Mediterranean always within sight.
In Nice, the Marc Chagall National Museum offers a more contemplative pause. Located in the Cimiez district, it combines art, gardens and a quieter side of Nice before heading back towards the city centre or the terraces of Old Nice.
July nights: jazz as the soundtrack to the Riviera
July is one of the most musical months on the French Riviera. Major festivals sit alongside more intimate events, where music takes on a special dimension in the heart of historic villages.
From 9 to 19 July, Jazz à Juan takes over the Pinède Gould in Juan-les-Pins. Between the pine trees, the nearby sea and an international line-up, the festival offers one of the Riviera’s signature summer
evenings.
From 23 to 25 July, the Nice Jazz Fest brings Place Masséna and the Théâtre de Verdure to life. It is a
perfect opportunity to extend a day in Nice with a concert in the very heart of the city.
For a more intimate evening, head to Haut-de-Cagnes. Jazz au Château turns Place du Château Grimaldi into an open-air stage every summer Friday.
On these evenings, a reservation at Le Village allows you to dine on the square while enjoying the
concert from a front-row setting. Between the stone facades of the medieval village, the lights of the château and live music, it is one of the most authentic summer experiences in Cagnes-sur-Mer.
Head for the hills: the Bellet vineyards
Nice is home to one of France’s most confidential wine regions: the Bellet appellation. In the hills above the city, vines grow between the Mediterranean and the first Alpine foothills, surrounded by terraced landscapes, olive trees and cypresses.
In July, late afternoon is the best time to discover this terroir. The heat softens, the light settles over the hills and the tasting takes on an entirely different atmosphere.
Château de Bellet offers visits, tastings and walks through the vineyards. It is a wonderful opportunity to discover the appellation’s signature grape varieties, including Rolle, Braquet and Folle Noire.
Domaine de Toasc also offers the opportunity to discover Bellet wines, currently available for tasting at Château de Crémat.
Dining in the countryside: Biot and Mougins
When the coastline becomes busier, the nearby countryside offers another way to enjoy July evenings.
In Biot, medieval lanes, glassmakers’ workshops and vaulted passageways create an intimate setting. For a gastronomic dinner, Les Terraillers offers refined cuisine in a former 16th-century pottery workshop.
In Mougins, galleries, small squares and terraces create a particularly lovely atmosphere at sunset.
L’Amandier de Mougins is a beautiful choice for extending the evening over Provençal and
Mediterranean cuisine.
Three days on the French Riviera: a fluid and inspiring itinerary
Day 1 — Nice, art and jazz under the stars
Begin by discovering Nice through the Marc Chagall National Museum, then continue your day in the city centre around Place Masséna and Old Nice.
In the evening, depending on your dates of stay, choose the energy of the Nice Jazz Fest or head to
Haut-de-Cagnes to dine at Le Village during Jazz au Château.

Back on land, extend the evening in Mougins or Biot for a more intimate atmosphere away from the buzz of the coast.
Day 3 — Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Bellet and Mediterranean softness
Dedicate your final day to the Fondation Maeght, then take time to explore Saint-Paul-de-Vence and its galleries.
